The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially released the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026 Notification vide Examination Notice No. 05/2026-CSE dated 04 February 2026. The UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted for recruitment to prestigious services like IAS, IPS, IFS and other Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’ Central Services.

Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

  • For IAS, IPS & IFS: Candidate must be a Citizen of India.
  • For other services: Citizen of India / Subject of Nepal / Bhutan / Tibetan Refugee (as per rules).

Educational Qualification

  • Candidate must hold a Graduate Degree from a recognized University.
  • Final year students can also apply (proof required at Interview stage).

Age Limit (As on 01 August 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years
  • Maximum Age: 32 Years
  • Candidate must be born between 02 August 1994 and 01 August 2005

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST: 5 Years
  • OBC: 3 Years
  • Defence Personnel: 3 Years
  • Ex-Servicemen: 5 Years

The Civil Services Examination consists of two stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)

Exam Pattern / Syllabus

🔹 Preliminary Examination

  • Paper I: General Studies (200 Marks)
  • Paper II: CSAT (200 Marks)
  • Negative Marking applicable

🔹 Main Examination

  • 9 Papers (Essay, GS I-IV, Optional Papers, Language Papers)
  • Followed by Interview (275 Marks)
